Hall of Fame’s Strickland Named an Icon of Education
Work with the National Teachers Hall of Fame and a lengthy teaching career led Carol Strickland to be named a 2019 Icon of Education by Ingram’s Magazine.
Theatre Student Selected for Prestigious Open Jar Institute in New York City
Senior theatre major Hewleek McKoy of Olathe has been selected to attend the Open Jar Institute in New York City. He is the third ESU Theatre student since 2012 to earn the honor.
Topeka Mayor to Deliver Bonner & Bonner Diversity Lecture
“Leading from Where You’re At” is the theme of the 2019 Bonner & Bonner Diversity Lecture: Civic Leadership for the Common Good. Topeka Mayor Michelle De La Isla will deliver the lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at Albert Taylor Hall in Plumb Hall on the Emporia State University campus.
Lyon County Historical Society Receives Humanities Kansas Grant for Community Book Read
Humanities Kansas recently awarded $1,028 to the Lyon County Historical Society of Emporia in support of the Sarah Smarsh’s Heartland: A Community Read. Greg Jordan, executive director of the Lyon County Historical Society is the project director. The grant is a collaboration between the Society and the Center for Great Plains Studies at Emporia State University.

Library Science Program Expands to Las Vegas
Emporia State University’s library science program is expanding. A new cohort will open in fall 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada. That makes seven programs for ESU’s School of Library and Information Management, including Sioux Falls, South Dakota, which opened in fall 2017.
SLIM Opens New Program in Boise
Boise, Idaho, is the newest branch of Emporia State’s library science program offered through the School of Library and Information Management.
