ESU’s Annual Music Gala supports scholarship fund

The community is invited to join Emporia State students, faculty and staff for a joyous, uplifting musical experience at the Annual Music Gala Benefit Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14.

The event, held in Albert Taylor Hall on the ESU campus, is the single largest source of fundraising revenue for the Music Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to music majors and non-music majors alike.

“We rely heavily on student musicians from majors across the university and the proceeds from this concert allow us to provide scholarships to these students,” said Allan Comstock, assistant dean for the School of Visual and Performing Arts and program director of music.

Each year, this celebration generates thousands of dollars that directly impact talented students, some of whom would not be able to attend ESU without the generosity of those who support the arts.

The concert will include ESU music faculty, alumni and students.

“This is the first time that we have featured faculty, current students and alumni,” Comstock added. “Our own very talented faculty have traditionally proven to be among the most popular performers for the benefit concerts.”

At intermission, Dr. John Ericson, a professor at Arizona State University, will be inducted into the Frank A. Beach Hall of Distinction. Ericson is an alum of both Emporia State and Emporia High School.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online or at the music office in Beach Hall 105.
