ESU to Dedicate New Flint Hills Map and Education Exhibit

Two ribbon cuttings on April 12 will dedicate new installations of the first-of-its-kind Flint Hills Tallgrass Prairie map exhibit and educational program.

The first ribbon cutting for Emporia State University’s “You Are Here: Flint Hills Map and Education Program” will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, in Skillett Atrium of Visser Hall. At 2:15 p.m., a second ribbon-cutting event will take place on the second floor of the William Allen White Memorial Library. A short welcome and information about the map exhibits will then be held, with a reception immediately following in White Library.

The place-based education program, created by a grass roots team of Flint Hills teachers, scientists, ranchers and experts, is designed to deepen students’ pride and understanding of their remarkable place in the world, the Kansas Flint Hills — the last four percent of tallgrass prairie in North America.

The exhibits and education program are offered to Flint Hills schools and colleges at no cost — funded through private donations to the map program through the Flint Hills Discovery Center Foundation.
