Emporia State University is the only public university in Kansas to have earned national recognition as a College of Distinction, an honor for universities demonstrating innovative application of high-impact education. In addition, in the Best Colleges 2018 guidebook by U.S. News and World Report, ESU is ranked No. 2 in lowest student debt of all Midwest regional universities.
Colleges of Distinction is a national guide to colleges that recognizes and honors schools with extraordinary commitment to enriching student outcomes through innovative, high-impact learning opportunities. ESU recently achieved this honor after being evaluated on key indicators including student empowerment and curricular innovation.
“We’re so excited that ESU has one of the lowest debt levels in the nation, as well as one of the highest placement rates in the nation,” says Allison Garrett, ESU president. “Together, these speak to the high caliber of ESU and the kind of experiences our students have.”
ESU has initiated several exciting projects to provide students with additional high-impact learning experiences recognized by Colleges of Distinction, including an Aquatic Research Outreach Center, Hornet Connected Learning (a one-to-one device-based learning initiative preparing education students to teach effectively with evolving technology), robust study abroad opportunities, a brand-new residence hall slated to open fall 2019 and many other specialized programs.
Colleges of Distinction also honored ESU with Field of Study badges for its expert blending of education with professional programming in the fields of Business, Education and Nursing.
“We offer a collaborative environment for our students, faculty and community,” says Garrett. “Our diverse curriculum allows for students to gain practical experience in and out of the classroom, develop adaptive leadership skills and take part in an exciting and active campus.”
