The first of four finalists for Emporia State’s next provost and vice president for academic affairs will be on campus Wednesday (Nov. 9) to interview and meet various stakeholders as well as tour the Emporia community.

Emporia State is investing in new and continued educational opportunities, programming, curriculum changes, career pathways and systematic reviews of policies and practices designed to increase retention and graduation rates among historically marginalized populations.

Emporia State University’s class of new incoming students show double-digit increase in the 20th day of enrollment figures for fall 2022. New freshmen students saw a 12% increase over 2021, new transfer students 15% and new graduate students 7% for an overall increase of 10% for new students compared to fall 2021.

Two federal grants totaling nearly $3 million for Emporia State University programs were celebrated today during a visit by U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran. The first grant allows the university to create a program in cybersecurity. It came from U.S. Commerce Department funds designated for sciences.

David Spafford, an experienced professional with a proven track record for fundraising, has been named the new Director of Athletics for Emporia State University. Spafford, a Kansas native, brings a successful 27-year career in athletics to Hornet Nation. Spafford will officially begin his duties on July 17, 2022.

The Kansas Board of Regents named Hush as Interim President of Emporia State on November 17, 2021, following the departure of former president Allison Garrett. He will assume the role of permanent president of the university immediately.

More than 750 Emporia State undergraduate students were named to the university honor roll after the spring 2022 semester.

Lunch was on Emporia State University for local law enforcement officers and firefighters earlier this month. On May 10, ESU Interim President Ken Hush and the university’s leadership team sent a deli lunch to more than 70 at the Emporia Police Department, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Emporia State Police and Emporia Fire Department.

Emporia State University announced Friday (May 20, 2022) that it will close the Center for Early Childhood Education in August 2023.
