Seniors Mara Fox, Cassandra Jenkins, Elizabeth Mayer and Gavin White, of Emporia State University’s Art Education Department, will host a group art exhibition entitled “Alter Ego.” The show will be on display from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., April 25 through May 6 at Memorial Union Second Floor at Emporia State University.
“Alter Ego” is a combined look into the lives of four art education majors at ESU. This show highlights the progression of their work through their years of study.
“This show just reminds me of how influential and important a community like ours is. To lean on one another and come together to make a statement and showcase each of us as individuals and colleagues working toward the same goal,” said Jenkins.
The artists in the show are all art education majors in their third or fourth year at Emporia State University. Most of the artists have an emphasis in painting with the exception of Jenkins, who has a printmaking emphasis and plans to earn an MFA in ceramics.
Despite their art emphases, the four artists greatly enjoy exploring art in various mediums and have interests in all different art forms. Mayer grew up in Blue Springs, Missouri, but currently resides in Council Grove. Fox lives in Paola, Kansas. White, similar to Fox, is a lifelong Kansas resident who was raised in Wichita. While Jenkins grew up in Osage City, Kansas, she has plans to move to Pensacola, Florida, after graduation.
Fox says, “This show acts as a great experience for us as we are not only educators but we are also artists ourselves. This show demonstrates how much we push ourselves in order to improve as artists.”
A closing reception for the exhibition will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, May 6, on the second floor of the Memorial Union. The reception is free and open to the public.
