Frank A. Beach

Frank Beach organized the first statewide high-school music contest in the country, which continues to this day.

Lyman B. Kellogg was the first teacher and the first president of the Kansas State Normal, Emporia.

Abigail Morse taught at Kansas State Normal for three years and was the preceptress (dean of women).

Henry Norton came to Kansas State Normal in 1865.

Preston Plumb was one of the original founders of Emporia, where he established the Kanzas News, the first newspaper in Emporia.

In 1897, Lyman Wooster became professor of biology at Kansas State Normal.
