Pre-Professional Programs - Physical Therapy
Do more with your degree
Pre-Physical Therapy
The physical therapy professional (clinical) training programs at KUMC and WSU are both Doctor of Physical Therapy degree programs. A student must have a bachelor’s degree for admission. Therefore, a student interested in applying to these programs should pursue requirements for a degree at ESU as well as pre-physical therapy course requirements. Students are encouraged to choose a major in Biology with a concentration in Healthcare.
The courses are required for admission to professional physical therapy programs at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) and Wichita State University (WSU). Students who are interested in physical therapy programs outside the state should write for information to the appropriate institution. Admission to schools of physical therapy is competitive and ESU cannot guarantee that students will be accepted. Students applying for these programs must have a strong GPA in their degree program. Students must also take the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). For current information, the student should consult with the pre-physical therapy advisor early in their career.

Why ESU?
Our professors don’t want you to be a passive learner in the biology program, but an active participant in study and research in your field of interest. With smaller class sizes in your major, you’ll have the opportunity to do original research of your own choosing or work with professors on ongoing projects.

Cool classes
Emporia State students get involved from the very beginning. In 2018, a freshman biology course worked on a semester-long research project about microplastics that was accepted for publication in a national journal. ESU has the only on-campus aquatic research facility in the state of Kansas, where you’ll take classes and study in the field. Get more info about the cool classes and learning opportunities by exploring the complete degree requirements.
